As a Pittsburgh children’s photographer, I spend a lot of time thinking about how quickly childhood moves—and how easy it is to miss the smallest details until they’re already gone.
When I look back at photos of my own kids, I’m always surprised by how much they’ve changed. My son went from a baby with rolls and chubby cheeks to a three-year-old who suddenly looks like a little boy. Those baby features faded quietly, without me even realizing it was happening.
And my daughter—now seven, almost eight—looks like a young lady. Her face has thinned out, she’s taller, leaner, and growing up faster than I ever expected.
That feeling—the urge to slow time down just a little—is what led me to create Personality Portraits.

What Are Personality Portraits?
Personality Portraits are short, child-led studio sessions designed to capture your child exactly as they are right now to be able to capture their childhood memories.
These aren’t stiff or overly posed photos. There’s no pressure to smile, no expectations to sit still, and no “say cheese.” Instead, the focus is on your child’s natural expressions, energy, and personality in this season of life.
Some kids smile easily.
Others are thoughtful or quiet.
Some love to move, dance, or be silly.
All of that is welcomed—and all of it tells their story.

Why I Created Personality Portraits as a Pittsburgh Children’s Photographer
As both a mom and a photographer, I noticed something missing.
We take photos constantly on our phones, and once a year our kids line up for school pictures. But so often, those images don’t fully feel like them.
School photos are quick and rushed. Kids are told where to sit, how to smile, and then it’s over. Some kids do fine. Others feel uncomfortable. And while you may get a smile, you don’t always get the expressions you’ll miss later.
I wanted to create something different—something intentional, relaxed, and honest.
Personality Portraits were created to give children space to show up as themselves and to help families focus on capturing childhood memories, not just checking off a yearly photo.

How Personality Portraits Are Different From Traditional Session
They’re Short and Easy
Each session is just 10 minutes, which means kids don’t have to stay focused for long. Short sessions often lead to more natural expressions and less pressure. This is a great way to capture childhood memories.
They’re Child-Led
Kids get to choose how they show up—sitting, standing, moving, dancing, or staying still. I follow their lead and adjust in the moment.
There’s No Pressure to Smile
I’ll gently encourage expressions and use playful prompts to bring out laughter or silly faces, but nothing is forced. If your child smiles, I’ll capture it. If they don’t, those quieter looks are just as meaningful.
They Feel Personal
Children are welcome to bring a favorite stuffed animal or small toy—something that helps them feel comfortable or represents who they are right now.
The Focus Is on Expression, Not Variety
Rather than multiple outfits or setups, the focus is on capturing a range of genuine expressions in a simple, timeless way.

Personality Portraits FAQ
What if my child doesn’t smile?
That’s completely okay. Not every child shows joy with a big smile, and those softer expressions are often the ones parents treasure most. If your child smiles naturally, I’ll capture it—if not, you’ll still receive beautiful, honest images.
What if my child is shy or doesn’t cooperate?
These sessions are designed with that in mind. There’s no pressure, no rushing, and no expectations for “perfect” behavior. I read each child’s cues and work with their energy, whether they want to move, observe, or take a little time to warm up.
How long is the session?
Each Personality Portrait session is 10 minutes—short and sweet.
What ages are these for?
Personality Portraits are designed for children 6 months (sitting independently) and up, from babies to teens.
What should my child wear?
Simple, comfortable clothing without logos works best. Solid colors and soft textures keep the focus on your child’s face and expressions. A full wardrobe guide is provided before your session.
Can siblings be photographed together?
Each session is scheduled per child so that every child gets individual time and attention. Siblings book separate slots, but all images will be delivered together in one gallery.
What do we receive after the session?
About 2–3 weeks after your session, you’ll receive a private online gallery with 10–15 images in both color and black & white.

A Final Thought From a Pittsburgh Children’s Photographer
Our kids won’t always look like this.
Their faces will keep changing.
Their expressions will evolve.
Personality Portraits exist to help you hold onto now—just a little longer.
